Everyone remembers pinewood derby's from when they were kids, except my family since we're all girls. Kelly has been talking about his for weeks now. On Saturday Kelly, Tyler, and Kaysen went to Kelly's work to cut out the car. When they got home I was shocked to see it all in one piece, I didn't know Kelly could work with wood like that. Then came the sanding and more sanding and still more sanding. Then came the painting. Then they had to make sure the weights were properly placed. Then 1 1/2 hours before "the derby", as Tyler calls it, Kelly drilled all the way through the car...oops. So, the hurrying began. I called Jenny and asked if she had any vinyl designs that we could use to cover up this mistake. She said to come over and we'd look. I mistakenly thought the decision would be a quick one, but we had to find the perfect design. It took Tyler about 45 minutes to choose the perfect one. In the meantime Kelly had to go help set the track up at the church. I drove him overthere so I could have the car. When we got there nobody had a scale and everything had to be set up. I called Jenny, who is a lifesaver, and asked if she could feed my kids and bring them to the church. I'm so thankful to have such an amazing friend. The races got started and Tyler won his first race and I thought yes he won. Then he raced again and won. The boys each raced about 12 times and when it came down to the final 4 they each raced 4 time against each other and on the different tracks. Tyler was completely undefeated at the end of the night and took home the 1st place trophy and a king sized candy bar!!! You've never seen Kelly or Tyler so excited. I'm amazed at all the hard work that goes into each of the cars. It was a great bonding time for Kelly and Tyler. Now they have to try and live up to their reputations for next year.
